The RealReal Threw Me a Dinner (& I Saved You a Seat)
Eavesdropping on what all the RealGirlies are searching for...
Dear Reader,
Last week, The RealReal hosted a dinner in my honor, which was cute. It took place at King, one of my favorite restaurants in New York City, and all of my favorite RealGirls came out: Print magazine icons Mickey Boardman and Lynn Yaeger sat next to Substack icons
and . Filmmaker Francesca Scorsese (yeah, that Scorsese) chatted it up with model Bella Banos over mini martinis. Podcaster Recho Omondi went “live” for her followers during dessert. Designer tea was spilled... You really had to be there. (Was I? Or did I have a source?) “If Tim Gunn and Gossip Girl co-wrote a style publication, this would be it,” read the Vogue recap afterward. Well! I’ve died and gone to RealGirl heaven. While dinner was served, guests filled out mad libs revealing their deepest, darkest secrets, i.e., their saved searches on TRR. Selfishly, this was a great way for me to gather intel.
wrote that she’s searching for Nicolas Ghesquière-era Balenciaga (told you), Marni skirts, and Sacai tops. Designer Batsheva Hay says she’s searching for clip-on earrings, since her lobes remain unpierced. And just wrote “Prada” for every answer, which, lol.Laura, my queen, shared some of her recent searches on her Substack, including Hermes Victoria bags, Auralee, and Giorgio Armani—the perfect trifecta, if you ask me. (She influenced me to save ‘Hermes Victoria’ as well.) She also said she’s searching for Loewe by Jonathan Anderson now that we know for sure the designer (who goes by JW Anderson) is leaving the brand to be replaced by the Proenza Schouler boys, Jack and Lazaro. While Anderson will probably be best remembered for his Loewe bags, I’ll always be a fan of his Loewe sunglasses, his wacky but beautiful prints, his collaborations, and his use of tromp l’oeil, among other things. His namesake label should also not be forgotten. Those chain-link shoes were such a moment, and I’m really happy for whoever bought this...
Now is a great time to revisit Proenza Schouler, too, as it’s one of the few luxury brands that the average person might still be able to afford. I turn to it when I need a dress for a summer wedding, and, on my most recent deep dive, I found soooo many good options for great prices here, here, here, here, here, here, here, aaaaaand here. Also, something for the bride!
What else am I searching for? Let’s see…
The search for the perfect trench is never-ending. Now that spring is on the horizon, I'm on the hunt, but I'm determined not to look like every other trench-wearing influencer, and vintage is the best way to do that. Of course, Burberry is an obvious first search. But there’s a lot to consider: Do you want it belted? Straight? What color? Texture? Personally, I’m keeping an eye out for Barbour x Alexa Chung.
The recent Murakami re-release made me realize that searching for clothing from Marc Jacobs’ Louis Vuitton era is not a rabbit hole I’ve gone down before. So much of it reminds me of what we just saw on the designer’s runway, especially this red velvet dress.

The boho revival is turning my attention again towards Isabel Marant. I associate the designer so strongly with my pre-teen desires, but do we ever really grow out of wanting a frilly blouse or a strappy sandal?

The warmer weather makes me excited to start DRESSING again. It’s time to turn a new leaf. Who will you be this spring? Who will I be?? That’s a secret I’ll never tell.
XOXO,
The RealGirl
oh this is all so cute!
